  1. About Us

Our history

Background

Glasgow Eco Trust was first conceived as Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust (DRCET) back in 2002.

In 2001 a large community consultation exercise was undertaken by the Dumbarton Road Corridor Small Area Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP) Environment and Image working group. The SIP covered the neighbourhoods of Yoker North, Yoker South, South West Scotstoun and Whiteinch in the west of Glasgow.

The community consultation lasted 18 months and led to the publication of the Yoker, Scotstoun and Whiteinch 20 year Environmental Vision in December 2002. The vision was built around 5 area frameworks - Yoker Waterfront, Peterson Park, Kingsway, Balmoral Street and Whiteinch.

The Environmental Vision recommended the creation of two community trusts - an Environment Trust and a Development Trust. Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust came into being in September 2004 to help the people of the area realise the Vision.

The intention was that the Environmental Vision would be adopted as part of the Glasgow City Plan as a Local Area Plan, however this never happened and a separate Development Trust was never set up. Furthermore, in 2007 the SIP was replaced by Community Planning with the creation of the Glasgow Community Planning Partnership (CPP) and the 10 local partnerships in the City. DRCET fell under two of the new local CPP areas - West (inc Yoker and Scotstoun) and Central and West (inc Whiteinch).

With the emergence of the new Community Planning Partnership and with changes to the electoral ward boundaries in the City the area covered by DRCET has also changed over time.

However the 20 year Environmental Vision has continued to inform our development and progress and since its publication we have gone on to deliver a wide range of projects and services, many of which have contributed to the Environmental Vision.

From DRCET to Glasgow Eco Trust

Glasgow Eco Trust main logoIn the lead up to our 10th anniversary the Board took the decision to review the name of the organisation as it was becoming less representative of what we did and how we operated. The consultation with members began at our 10th AGM and the new name and branding was further developed through a series of focus groups with a range of partners and stakeholders. The work was undertaken with support from Jobs and Business Glasgow and external consultants RPL Marketing.

Who we are

Glasgow Eco Trust is governed by our volunteer Board of Trustees and the day-to-day running of the organisation is delivered by our small staff team supported by our volunteers.
