What is the NCN Cycle Path ArtRoots Art Trail?

The ‘NCN7’ is a cycle route that goes all the way from Inverness to Sunderland passing through Whiteinch, Scotstoun and Yoker. Around 175 local people from schools and community groups created artwork that celebrates and promotes the section that runs through our community - the cycle path from Whiteinch to Yoker - along the old railway line.
The NCN7 is not just for bikes! It’s a way to connect us to our favourite people and places and a space to pause and enjoy the beauty of nature - it’s an urban oasis! Choosing 8 special things to celebrate about the path, each group created artwork inspired by those themes. Each artwork can be found at the location they were made (see map below for the art trail locations!).
This project was in collaboration with artists Jennifer Olley and Lynsey Wells, and kindly funded by Walk Wheel Cycle Trust's ArtRoots fund.

How do I take part?

Either pick a copy of the art trail map up from Glasgow Eco Trust in the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre, or you can download a digital copy here.

Follow the art trail along the cycle path and visit the artworks in each location. Some of the artworks are visible outside, while some now live inside primary schools so will not be available to view to the public.

How did we do it?

The project was inspired by the bold colours and style of old travel posters. Using different drawing techniques and collage (papers stuck down to create a new image), each participant created a mini art work that became part of a bigger piece, ensuring that everybody who took part can say ‘I made that’!
