Welcome to our new Active Travel and Sustainable Transport Coordinator A hello from our new Active Travel and Sustainable Transport Coordinator. This new role will build on the work undertaken to develop the Active Travel and Sustainable Transport Action Plan for Whiteinch & Scotstoun. Hello! I’m Meg, the new Active Travel and Sustainable Transport Coordinator at Glasgow Eco Trust. Here is a quick bit about me and the projects I’ll be working on in the coming months. I have a background in third sector environmental organisations, and have worked across a range of roles, most recently as a cycle mechanic for community cycling organisations. Over the years I’ve built up lots of knowledge on gender and climate justice issues which I’m looking forward to bringing to this role. When not working, I’ll likely be camping, cycling or hill running, making clothes, or talking about (and attending!) community choir and community football. My focus will be working to tackle systemic barriers to active travel and sustainable transport in West Glasgow. (I use ‘active travel’ to refer to modes of travelling such as walking, wheeling, scootering and cycling for all or part of a journey. I use ‘sustainable transport’ to refer to all modes of public transport as well as taxis and shared transport such as co-wheels). I will be coordinating several projects to help identify and break down barriers, so more people can access and enjoy active travel and sustainable transport. These projects include: Four Community-led Transport Forums - platforms to hear local voices, share local transport issues and successes and work together towards local transport solutions. Come along to the first of these - Tuesday 22nd October, 130-330pm, in Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre. Community Travel Diaries - we’re trying to build a picture of what it’s like to get around in West Glasgow and how we can increase access to sustainable and active travel. Travel diaries will be available to fill out soon. A buddy programme to support people to use and build confidence in using public transport, walking or cycling. Health walks and led cycle rides. Bike Breakfasts, Dr Bike and Fix Your Own Bike. If you’d like to get involved with or discuss any of these projects, please contact me at [email protected] or 07731 621474, come along to the first Community-led Transport Forum on Tuesday 22nd October in Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre or visit the active travel and sustainable transport section of the website. This role is funded by Paths for All Smarter Choices Smarter Places Open Fund which aims to encourage more people to travel sustainably.
